Blog followers will know that I adore Dartmoor. It fills me with peace, tranquillity and ease when I visit, and although I don’t know it as well as I wish I did, I feel right at home there.
Today we decided to seek out the much talked about and visited Wistman’s Wood. Again it is one of those places we have often thought of but never found, but I am so glad that we finally did so.
The weather was a little on the dull side, but warm. We piled coats in the car, but wasn’t sure we would need them.
Then the rain came.
The heavens opened and it poured down. Guess who forgot she didn’t have a hood on her coat? I got a little wet. But still smiling!
Luckily everyone else was better prepared than I, and it really didn’t dampen any spirits.
We followed the track from the car park, accompanied by the glorious sound of a very vocal Cuckoo – which brought a smile with every call. We reached the wood and I fell in love. What a beautiful place, with it’s mossy stones and gnarly trees.
The children adored exploring, and the place felt filled with magic.
Another day of fresh air, exercise and wonderful family time.
